Commentary
In November 2019, Sophie Hope attended The Age of Cultural Participation seminar at Kultura Nova in Zagreb. Sarah Feinstein and Lucy Wright also attended. After the event ended they sat in a hotel room and discussed what they had learned.
They look at the nature of academic conferences, and the ways in which participation becomes subtly difficult for many people, and discuss possible remedies. They look at how principles of cultural democracy might become built into the organising of public events. They argue for the need to problematise issues such as these, rather than letting them fade into the background where they remain unnoticed.
